John Matthews has a deep and expert knowledge of wine and wine making honed through both personal passion and professional dedication. Inspired by the wine his grandfather crafted and a transformative trip to Napa Valley, Matthews founded Cassaro Vineyards and later Cassaro Winery in Texas.  At Cassaro he crafts award-winning wines including some of his favorite Italian varietals; Sangiovese, Dolcetto, and Montepulciano winning over 100 international medals. Beyond winemaking, Matthews has created the "True Crime and Wine" event series, merging his law enforcement experiences with his winery’s award-winning offerings. As the President of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association (2024), he played a leading role in advancing the $20 billion Texas wine industry.

During a decorated career spanning over four decades, Matthews rose from a beat cop in one of America’s most dangerous neighborhoods to a nationally recognized law enforcement consultant and analyst. His groundbreaking work in crime reduction and economic development in Dallas earned him multiple prestigious awards. Matthews’ role in many high-profile cases solidified his reputation in the true crime arena.
