Inspired by the wine his grandfather crafted and a transformative trip to Napa Valley, Matthews founded Cassaro Vineyards and later Cassaro Winery in Texas. At Cassaro he crafts award-winning wines including some of his favorite Italian varietals; Sangiovese, Dolcetto, and Montepulciano winning over 100 international medals. Beyond winemaking, Matthews has created the "True Crime and Wine" event series, merging his law enforcement experiences with his winery’s award-winning offerings. As the President of the Texas Wine and Grape Growers Association (2024), he played a leading role in advancing the $20 billion Texas wine industry.
